Delivering MoBlack Records’ 412th release, Ata Ates traverses into the darkness and takes us
there. Riding a fetching bassline that indulges the impulses of the human body, the talented
German-born, Australia-based Turkish artist - a global citizen in literal terms - peruses affective
melodies, balanced with cosmic playfulness and grounded-to-Earth percussion to illuminate the
beauty “In the Darkness.” Just as the Earth’s main sources of light exist in the pitch blackness of
space, MBR412 spreads across a blank canvas made of dim, bedecked with poignant chords,
silvery synths strings and relucent pitch swells that radiate towards within, and more
pronouncedly as stirring vocals echo “In the darkness, (we) feel light,” throughout the chorus. “Is
there another way out?” Well, in the greatest depths of human solitude, lies the universe inside
and sometimes, isn’t the only way out - in?
