about

MoBlack and Stevo Atambire are joined by Italian duo, Armonica in appending a brand new
chapter to a saga that began to unfold over the summer - vignettes from an upcoming
six-part-series woven by the Ghanian vocalist’s ebullient croon at the core. No newcomers to
the label, Armonica has handled Afro vocals with deftness and decorum in the past, and hand in
hand with MoBlack, MBR406 raises the bar even higher, jiving courteous electronic maneuvers
that elevate, rather than just harmonize with, organic sounds and vigorous Frafra verses.
On A side, Saana Yoo Ma simmers amidst a picturesque backdrop of verdant percussion,
subtle chords, and lamenting strings as Kologo acoustics permeate Stevo Atambire’s nostalgic
Frafra vocals. Riding a captivating rhythm, Atambire’s poignant rasp cracks humility but exudes
conviction, echoing a potential antidote to Saana Yoo Ma’s latent grieving of its youth’s demise.
Strums on the two-stringed lute, balanced with delicate electronic tweaks make the Original Mix
a soothing daydream anthem for waltzing with the sun towards the horizon for reprieve.
Clinching the EP, MoBlack and Armonica supplements Saana Yoo Ma with a nocturnal Dub
mix, withholding sparse vocals and transposing unique soundscapes that speak when words
cannot. A robust, drum-led intro escorts a fetching groove and rapturous rhythm, establishing
B-side’s danceability right at onset. A certain melancholy still peals from the processed vocals,
an essence that stripped down, thrives with the track’s stunning patchwork of celestial synth
riffs, elongated chords and filtered percussion - 6:40 minutes worth of getting lost in a moment.
